Kohut faces a fourth-degree invasion of privacy charge after one of five devices seized by investigators allegedly contained the illicit footage; it is unclear whether his alleged victim was a colleague or a student, though the complaint indicates they knew each other. He was released on bail and faces up to 18 months in jail and a $10,000 fine if convicted. Kohut has a long history with Rutgers, having been a graduate assistant there from 1997 to 2002 before being appointed dean of research in 2025; his wife, Courtney Kohut, an assistant director at Princeton University, declined to comment when contacted.
