Ridley Scott has said he intends to make a third “Alien” prequel, focused on David, the android character played by Michael Fassbender in “Alien: Covenant”. The project would extend Scott’s exploration of artificial intelligence within the franchise, with David reportedly creating a new world for himself.

Scott, 88, is also preparing “The Dog Stars”, due to open on Friday, and plans to begin shooting an adaptation of “Treasure Island” starring Hugh Jackman in November. In discussing AI, he said he has not needed to use it to make films but expressed concern that it could eventually become more intelligent than humans; he will receive an honorary Oscar at the Governor’s Awards in November.
