The video marked one of Woods’s few public appearances since his March arrest for alleged driving under the influence and subsequent rehabilitation, making it notable because of continuing public scrutiny over his health and legal situation.

In the message, Woods praised Begay’s golfing career and community work, including support for more than 80,000 young people and families in Native American communities. Woods, 50, was arrested after a rollover crash on Jupiter Island, Florida, and reportedly entered a rehabilitation centre in Switzerland in April before returning in May; he is due in court on 8 September. He also made a brief public appearance last month when introducing PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp.
