Arizona State hockey player Matthew Mayich remains in hospital after reportedly collapsing during an outdoor off-ice training session last Thursday. The university is reviewing the circumstances, while the St. Louis Blues, who drafted Mayich in 2023, and the Ontario Hockey League have expressed support for his recovery.

Mayich, 21, is a defenceman from Stoney Creek, Ontario and was selected 170th overall by the Blues in the 2023 NHL Draft. He spent four seasons with the Ottawa 67’s, played for Clarkson University last season, and had transferred to Arizona State for the forthcoming NCAA campaign; no details of his condition or the cause of the collapse were released.
