Dashcam footage showed a teenage e-bike rider colliding with a koala crossing a road in Holland Park, Brisbane, before the riders looked back and continued without stopping. The incident has prompted criticism of their apparent failure to check on the animal and renewed calls for road users to take greater care around wildlife, particularly during koala mating season.

Koala Rescue Brisbane South said another motorist reported the collision and rescuers later found two koalas nearby, Valli and Barnsey, although they could not determine which had been hit. Both were examined at the RSPCA Wildlife Hospital in Wacol, found uninjured and released the following day; the charity’s founder also criticised speeding and urged drivers to be more vigilant.
