Hugh Grant has named the 1965 musical The Sound of Music as his favourite film of all time, describing it as “impeccable” and saying he loves every moment of it. The choice highlights a more sentimental side to the actor, who is commonly associated with British romantic-comedy roles but has also pursued a wide range of characters.

Grant said his attachment to the film began in childhood and recalled playing a von Trapp daughter in an all-boys school production at age 12. He said he still sings along to its songs and becomes emotional during scenes involving the von Trapp family, while explaining that he increasingly turns to classic musicals featuring Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly because stressful news makes heavier viewing less appealing.
