Half of UK drivers would now consider a Chinese car as acceptance grows

Daily Mail · 3 hours ago

A Carwow survey indicates that UK motorists are becoming markedly more willing to consider Chinese car brands, with 49 per cent saying they might buy one next. The shift matters because it suggests newer Chinese entrants are gaining ground in the UK market by challenging established manufacturers on price, equipment and technology rather than relying on traditional brand loyalty.

The proportion considering a Chinese car rose from 24 per cent in 2023 and 35 per cent last year, while Chinese-brand enquiries on Carwow reportedly increased from 14 to 30 per cent between the first half of 2025 and the first half of 2026. Among potential buyers, 42 per cent cited value for money as their main reason; awareness has also grown sharply, including for Jaecoo, BYD, Chery and Omoda. Carwow highlights the Jaecoo 7, Britain’s third best-selling new car so far in 2026, as an example of the appeal of lower-priced, well-equipped Chinese models.
