Colapinto to stay with Alpine for 2027 season
Alpine have re-signed Franco Colapinto for the 2027 Formula 1 season, keeping the Argentine driver alongside Pierre Gasly. The decision follows Colapinto’s strongest F1 results so far, including sixth in Canada and seventh in Miami, and gives the team greater continuity as it seeks to improve further.
Colapinto, 23, joined Alpine as a reserve in 2025 before replacing Jack Doohan after six races, having previously raced half of the 2024 season for Williams. Alpine finished last in 2025 but sit sixth after 12 races this year, helped by its early focus on its new car and its switch from Renault to customer Mercedes engines; Gasly’s Monaco podium remains subject to McLaren’s appeal.
- Alpine retain Colapinto for 2027 alongside Gasly.
- His Canadian sixth place was a career-best finish.
- Alpine have improved from last in 2025 to sixth.
