StudioCanal has launched StudioCanal Classics, a global catalogue label intended to promote and monetise its extensive film library through restorations, festival screenings and tailored distribution. The move matters because the company says its catalogue is the largest outside the United States, positioning it to introduce older films to both established cinephiles and younger audiences.

The library contains more than 18,000 titles spanning a century of cinema, and StudioCanal says it has invested nearly €25 million (£/US$29 million) over seven years in 4K restorations of almost 1,000 films. Recent releases include a 4K restoration of Michael Mann’s Manhunter, due in UK cinemas on 25 September, while Terminator 2: Judgment Day returns to cinemas worldwide from 27 August in multiple formats; other catalogue titles include Apocalypse Now, Paddington and The Third Man.
