Greek police have arrested two Romanian men, aged 19 and 28, after a 38-year-old British woman alleged that she was raped by them in a hotel room in Laganas, Zakynthos, and that the incident was filmed. The men were taken to the Zakynthos Prosecutor’s Office; the case highlights continuing concerns about reported sexual violence involving tourists on the island.

The alleged attack took place in the early hours of Tuesday. Earlier this month, police said three rapes involving tourists had been reported over the previous three months, while a hospital staff union representative claimed medical staff had handled eight cases in three weeks, although some alleged victims reportedly did not make formal complaints or identify suspects. Police are also investigating a separate allegation involving two 18-year-old British women and a tourism worker.
