Ipswich Town have signed Argentina midfielder Exequiel Palacios from Bayer Leverkusen for an undisclosed fee, with the 27-year-old agreeing a four-year contract. The World Cup winner becomes the first player to have won the tournament to join Ipswich, adding elite-level experience as the promoted Premier League side strengthens its squad.

Palacios has won 41 Argentina caps, the 2022 World Cup and two Copa América titles, and was part of Leverkusen’s first Bundesliga-winning side in 2023-24. He leaves after six years, 186 appearances and 15 goals for the German club; Ipswich’s 11th summer signing takes their spending since promotion beyond £150m, while the club are also pursuing Tammy Abraham on loan.
