Scooby-Doo is a mystery franchise that began as an animated television programme in 1969. It usually follows four teenagers and their dog, Scooby-Doo, as they investigate apparently supernatural events that often turn out to have ordinary explanations.

The main group includes Shaggy, Scooby’s easily frightened best friend; Daphne, Velma and Fred, who each play a part in solving the mysteries. The characters have appeared in many cartoons, films, games and live-action versions over several decades.

Netflix’s new series is set before the group becomes the familiar crime-solving team. It uses a summer-camp setting to show how the young characters first become involved in a mystery together.
