Fleetwood in contention as Lee leads Tour Championship
Defending champion Tommy Fleetwood began his Tour Championship defence with a four-under-par 66, leaving him four shots behind Australia’s Min Woo Lee after the opening round in Atlanta. Lee’s bogey-free 62 gave him the lead in the PGA Tour’s season-ending event, while Rory McIlroy recovered from an early wobble to remain in contention for a record-extending fourth FedEx Cup.
Lee was two strokes clear of Viktor Hovland, Collin Morikawa and Chris Gotterup after matching his best PGA Tour round, despite playing much of the day alone when JJ Spaun withdrew injured. Scottie Scheffler was among those close behind on five under, with Matt Fitzpatrick and Fleetwood on four under; the eventual winner will claim the FedEx Cup and $10m (£7.4m).
