Shelley Fabares died from pneumonia after living with autoimmune hepatitis, her family has confirmed. The death of the veteran American actor closes a career spanning television, film and voice acting, during which she became especially known for roles in The Donna Reed Show and Coach.

Born in Santa Monica in 1944, Fabares had received a liver transplant 26 years earlier and won two Emmy Awards. Her work included films with Elvis Presley, Brian’s Song, guest roles across numerous television series, and Emmy nominations in 1993 and 1994 for playing Christine Armstrong in Coach; her final credits included voicing Martha Kent in Superman animated productions.
