Plans have been unveiled for a new television and screen event in Edinburgh after the Edinburgh TV Festival ends and relocates to Manchester next year. Backed by Screen Scotland, the Scottish Government and Edinburgh’s festivals, the initiative aims to retain the city’s role as a meeting place for screen talent, content and creative ideas.

A pilot festival is hoped to take place in August 2027, with ambitions to involve audiences as well as industry professionals. The departing TV Festival began in 1976 and has been influential in industry debate, while speakers including Baby Reindeer creator Richard Gadd stressed Edinburgh Fringe’s importance in helping artists develop work that can reach television and wider audiences.
