Sydney is rocked by an earthquake – as hundreds report feeling the ground shake

A magnitude 3.4 earthquake shook parts of south-west Sydney shortly after 1pm on Friday, with more than 500 people reporting that they felt the tremor. Although residents described shaking windows, furniture movement and loud rumbling, earthquakes of this size do not usually cause injuries or widespread damage.

Geoscience Australia recorded the quake at a depth of 3km. Reports came from suburbs including Harrington Park, Spring Farm, Mount Annan, Holsworthy and Gregory Hills, with people saying the shaking lasted roughly five to ten seconds.
