HBO Max is filming “Mataviejitas: The Serial Killer”, a six-part Mexican psychological thriller based on an infamous case involving the murder of elderly women. The series is intended to combine a police investigation and serial-killer narrative with a distinctly Mexican cultural perspective, as the platform expands its Latin American original programming for a global audience.

Produced by Exile Content, the show is led by showrunner and co-director Humberto Hinojosa, alongside co-director J.M. Cravioto. Warner Bros. Discovery says the project reflects HBO Max’s continued investment in local productions to increase viewership and engagement, amid competition from Netflix, Disney+ and Prime Video, the latter of which recently announced investment of more than $2 billion in the region.
