A 17-year-old British boy has died after getting into difficulty while swimming in Lake Cauma near Flims, eastern Switzerland, during a family holiday. The incident highlights the risks of open-water swimming, and local police are investigating the circumstances of his death.

He had been attempting to swim from an island in the lake to the shore at about 5.45pm on Thursday. People in canoes brought him ashore, where paramedics attempted resuscitation before he was taken to Chur Cantonal Hospital; he died later that evening.
