U2 have released a cover of The Pogues’ 1989 song ‘Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah’ as the latest preview of a tribute album honouring Shane MacGowan. The release highlights the band’s longstanding friendship and musical connection with MacGowan, whose influence bridged Irish storytelling traditions and punk music.

The album, ‘20th Century Paddy – The Songs Of Shane MacGowan’, is due on 13 November and includes contributions from Bruce Springsteen, Tom Waits, Hozier, The Libertines and others. It will be issued digitally and in a limited physical edition featuring three LPs, two CDs and a 56-page memorabilia book; half of artist royalties will support Dublin Simon Community. MacGowan died from pneumonia in November 2023, aged 65.
