Tennessee Governor Bill Lee has formally advanced a proposal to rename Nashville International Airport after Dolly Parton, following discussions with her team, which was reportedly touched by the idea. The plan moves a fan-led campaign into an official decision-making process and would honour Parton at a major gateway to Tennessee.

The Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority is scheduled to consider the proposal on 17 September. A petition supporting the change had gathered more than 150,000 signatures by Friday afternoon, and state representative Todd Warner says he intends to introduce supporting legislation.
