Lampard ‘somewhere in the middle’ of Mourinho and Ancelotti
Frank Lampard says his managerial style sits between the demanding approach of José Mourinho and the calmer, more trusting manner of Carlo Ancelotti, both of whom he played under at Chelsea. The Coventry City manager believes balancing discipline with understanding is important as he prepares the club for its return to the Premier League after a 25-year absence.
Lampard led Coventry to the Championship title with 95 points last season, finishing 11 points ahead of Ipswich after taking charge in November 2024. He says promotion ranks alongside major achievements from his playing career, while stressing that he is not motivated chiefly by proving critics wrong following mixed spells as manager of Derby, Chelsea and Everton.
- Lampard blends Mourinho’s intensity with Ancelotti’s calm.
