Welsh Para-rower Ben Pritchard has retained the PR1 men’s single sculls world title at the Rowing World Championships in Amsterdam, reinforcing his position as one of the sport’s leading competitors. His victory is particularly notable after recent injury problems and disrupted championship scheduling caused by thunderstorms.

The 34-year-old from Mumbles won in 8 minutes 50.46 seconds, a World Championships record, finishing 6.81 seconds ahead after Italian Giacomo Perini and Australia’s Erik Horrie briefly narrowed the gap early on. Pritchard, who won Paralympic gold in 2024 and the 2026 European title weeks earlier, remains just outside his own world-record time of 8:40.38, set at the 2025 European Championships.
