Boreham Wood have agreed a National League record fee, thought to exceed £1.5m, for the sale of winger Abdul Abdulmalik to Swedish club Djurgardens. The deal surpasses the previous fifth-tier record of £1m paid by Leicester City to Fleetwood Town for Jamie Vardy in 2012, and brings an end to a lengthy transfer saga after Boreham Wood had turned down two earlier bids for the 23-year-old this summer.

Abdulmalik, a former Millwall academy player released in 2024, enjoyed a breakthrough 2025-26 season with 17 goals and 10 assists, helping Boreham Wood reach the National League play-off final at Wembley, where he scored and set up a goal. He made himself unavailable for selection after his final appearance in mid-August to push through a move, with Peterborough United among the English clubs also interested. He is currently in Sweden completing his medical, and joins a Djurgardens side fifth in the Allsvenskan with games in hand and European qualification still in reach.
