Apple has refreshed two of its smaller desktop Macs, giving buyers a wider choice of chips just ahead of the company's September product cycle. The Mac Mini can now be configured with either a new M6 chip or an M5 Pro, while the Mac Studio has also been updated with an M5 Ultra option, giving both machines a performance boost aimed at users who want compact but powerful desktop computers.

Preorders for the updated Mac Mini are open now, though the new models will not actually ship until 22 September, and both configurations start at $100 more than the previous generation. The Mac Studio refresh is also available to preorder with the new M5 Ultra chip.
