Jason Statham’s ‘Die Hard’ on a Boat Sinks After 10 Days at the Box Office

Jason Statham's new action thriller Mutiny has struggled at the North American box office, taking in around $13 million during its first ten days of release. Despite the weak headline figure, industry observers note this is broadly in line with the pattern for Statham's recent mid-budget action films, which are designed to under-perform in cinemas before making their real money through streaming and premium video-on-demand deals. Producer Basil Iwanyk, speaking on The Town podcast, said such films consistently earn back their costs once these later revenue streams are counted, meaning domestic box-office totals are a poor measure of their overall success.

Mutiny's theatrical run was also hampered by a leak: days before its cinema release, the film was accidentally uploaded in full to Prime Video, allowing it to spread on illegal file-sharing sites ahead of schedule. Its takings are comparable to Statham's other 2026 release, Shelter, which finished its domestic run with just under $14 million, and to 2023's Expend4bles, which made $16 million domestically. By contrast, his two collaborations with director David Ayer performed far better, with The Beekeeper grossing $66 million and A Working Man taking $37 million in North America.

  • Statham's Mutiny made only about $13m in ten days domestically.
  • Producer says Statham films profit mainly via streaming, not cinemas.
  • Film was leaked online days before its theatrical release.
