Driven & hungry Rashford a Man Utd asset – Maguire

BBC Sport · 5 hours ago

Manchester United defender Harry Maguire has backed Marcus Rashford to make a real impact this season, praising his fitness and attitude after the forward's return to the starting line-up. Rashford started his first Premier League match for United in 21 months during the 5-2 win over Ipswich Town at Old Trafford, having previously fallen out of favour under Ruben Amorim and spent last season on loan at Aston Villa and then Barcelona. With the transfer window closing on Tuesday, it now appears certain the 28-year-old will stay at his boyhood club.

Maguire said Rashford remained "a great talent" who could still be "a great asset" if kept fit, happy and motivated, while acknowledging he has faced criticism during difficult periods for the club. He also praised midfielder Kobbie Mainoo's performance against Ipswich after a lack of pre-season minutes and being overlooked for England's World Cup squad. Elsewhere, Joshua Zirkzee now looks the most likely senior player to leave United before the window shuts, after a proposed loan to Fiorentina fell through, with Juventus a possible destination depending on Jonathan David's move to Atletico Madrid.
