Alex Cooper’s Unwell Launches Reality Competition Sequel on YouTube
Alex Cooper's media company Unwell is launching a second reality competition series, Unwell Summer Games, on YouTube from 7 September, bringing together 16 reality stars and creators competing for a $250,000 prize. The launch comes as the company pursues rapid expansion, but it is also being overshadowed by reports of internal turmoil, including staff turnover concerns and claims about the conduct of Cooper's husband and co-CEO, Matt Kaplan.
The series was filmed over four days at a Canadian ranch and is produced by Cooper, Kaplan, Mina Lefevre and Eric Detwiler, with hosting duties handled by Adam W. and commentary from Cameron Gerrard and Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu. It follows the Unwell Winter Games from March and arrives shortly after Cooper secured a $500 million valuation through investment from Whitesell-led firm WTSL, though the company is also reportedly closing its Unwell Beverage Co line and has faced Bloomberg and Vanity Fair reports about Kaplan's alleged behaviour towards staff, some allegedly during the Winter Games production. Cooper addressed the controversy at Cannes in June, saying people should not "believe everything you read on the internet."
