Zak Starkey, The Who's longtime drummer, has confirmed he is back with the band following months of confusion over his position within the group. Starkey, son of Ringo Starr, said on Instagram that a recent rehearsal had gone well and that he was "lookin forward to tearin it up" with the band again, after singer Roger Daltrey told a Las Vegas audience the group was preparing to reunite with him on drums.

Starkey, who joined The Who in 1996, was dropped from the band in April last year, reportedly at Daltrey's instigation after complaints about the drummer's volume during shows at London's Royal Albert Hall. He was then briefly reinstated before being fired again within a month, with Scott Devours taking over for what was billed as the band's farewell North American tour, completed in October. Daltrey has since suggested the group is not finished, telling the Arizona Republic it was only "the last tour of America," though no new dates have yet been confirmed and a representative for The Who has not commented on Starkey's return.
