Yoni Finlay, who survived last year's terror attack on Heaton Park Hebrew Synagogue in Manchester, has said the Jewish community does not feel safer nearly a year on, revealing that his 16-year-old son has received death threats since the atrocity. Speaking ahead of a memorial service marking almost a year since the attack, Mr Finlay described a community living behind "ever increasing gates" and taking steps to conceal event locations and identities. His comments, along with those of the synagogue's rabbi, highlight growing concern that antisemitism in Britain has worsened rather than eased since the attack, despite increased security measures.

Two men, Melvin Cravitz, 66, and Adrian Daulby, 53, were killed and several others injured, including Mr Finlay, when Jahid Al-Shamie drove into the synagogue's gates and launched a knife attack on Yom Kippur, 2 October last year; Al-Shamie was shot dead by police at the scene while on bail for an alleged rape. Rabbi Daniel Walker said the congregation felt more vulnerable now than immediately after the attack, citing a lack of action on "core problems" alongside attacks elsewhere, including a mass shooting in Sydney and stabbings and arson attacks on Jewish targets in London. A Freedom of Information request to 33 police forces in England and Wales found violent hate crimes against Jewish people have risen by nearly two-thirds since 2022, with antisemitic criminal damage and arson offences almost doubling over the same period.
