The San Sebastián Film Festival has announced it will present two-time Oscar nominee Naomi Watts with its Donostia Award this year, an honour given annually for outstanding contributions to cinema. The presentation will take place ahead of the screening of her new film, The Housewife, marking her return to the Spanish festival after previously attending in 2009 with the closing-night film Mother & Child.

The award will be presented on 19 September at a gala at the Kursaal, where Watts will introduce The Housewife, a true-story drama set in 1964 about a journalist investigating a suspected Nazi officer hiding in New York, directed by Ben Shirinian and also starring Tye Sheridan, Luke Evans, Michael Imperioli and Lena Olin. The film will premiere earlier that month at the Toronto Film Festival, while San Sebastián itself runs from 18 to 26 September. Watts earned Oscar nominations for 21 Grams (2004) and The Impossible (2013), and her wider filmography includes Mulholland Drive, King Kong and Birdman.
