Liz Meriwether Definitely Has Ideas for ‘Furious’ Season 2 After That Twist Ending

Collider · 2 hours ago

Hulu's crime thriller Furious has wrapped its first season with a finale that resolves the fate of trafficked character Isabel while opening up a bigger conspiracy involving FBI agent Alice Black (Emmy Rossum) and billionaire Jay Easton (Peter McRobbie). Creator Liz Meriwether spoke to Collider about the twist-laden ending, revealing that the show has officially been renewed for a second season, and discussed how she is already developing ideas to build on the finale's revelations, including the fallout from an incriminating flash drive now in Alice's possession.

Meriwether explained that she was uncertain how audiences would respond to the show's dark tone, having warned people in her life that the reception "could really go either way." She cited influences ranging from the 1987 film Black Widow, Blood Simple, The Last Seduction and Sleeping with the Enemy to real-world research, including conversations with FBI agents specialising in trafficking, a former NYPD homicide detective, a trafficking survivor, and a Brooklyn assistant district attorney, alongside books such as Ann Rule's The Stranger Beside Me. Meriwether also said she deliberately balanced the story's darkness with a more hopeful resolution for Alice and Danny (Scoot McNairy), and confirmed that Furious was always conceived as an ongoing series.
