YouTuber Markiplier acquires 8.5% stake to become GoPro’s largest shareholder

The Verge · 3 hours ago

YouTuber Mark "Markiplier" Fischbach has become GoPro's largest shareholder after acquiring an 8.5 percent stake in the company, according to Bloomberg. He told Bloomberg he believes GoPro "seems undervalued" and frames the investment as part of a broader ambition to make filmmaking more accessible, a goal linked to his first feature film, Iron Lung, released earlier this year.

Fischbach recently posted a video praising GoPro's new Mission 1 ILS camera, comparing it favourably to the more expensive Red Komodo-X and saying he intends to use it in future film projects; the video included an affiliate code but made no mention of his ownership stake. Fellow YouTuber Marques Brownlee commented on the investment via Threads, calling it a line "not seen crossed very often." GoPro had not responded to a request for comment at the time of publication.

  • Markiplier now owns 8.5% of GoPro, its largest shareholder
  • He calls GoPro undervalued and ties it to his filmmaking ambitions
  • His promotional video didn't disclose his stake, drawing comment from MKBHD
