Swansea sign Huddersfield midfielder Iorpenda

BBC Sport · 5 hours ago

Swansea City have permanently signed midfielder Tom Iorpenda from League One side Huddersfield Town, strengthening head coach Vitor Matos's midfield options ahead of a Championship season that has started unbeaten. The 21-year-old joins for an undisclosed fee believed to be around £1m, with Huddersfield's head coach admitting the club "reluctantly" accepted a "substantial" offer given Iorpenda's contract was due to run down.

Iorpenda, who came through Brighton's academy before joining Huddersfield in 2021, has signed a three-year deal with Swansea with the option of a further year. He impressed last season on loan at Notts County, making 53 appearances, scoring three goals and helping the club win promotion from League Two via the play-offs, earning him the club's player-of-the-season award. He could feature for Swansea as soon as their home Championship fixture against Watford, and arrives as a replacement in midfield following Ethan Galbraith's move to Stoke City, alongside the earlier signing of Canada international Stephen Eustaquio from Porto.
