Star Wars stunt performer Brendan Wayne, who plays The Mandalorian's Din Djarin in most non-action scenes, has confirmed his grandfather John Wayne directly influenced the character's now-iconic walk and demeanour. Speaking at a FAN EXPO Canada panel moderated by Collider, Wayne revealed the connection despite initially trying to distance his performance from his famous grandfather's legacy, saying he was "taught to be your own man." The revelation adds a notable layer of Hollywood lineage to one of Disney+'s biggest Star Wars successes, arriving as the franchise's future on screen looks uncertain following The Mandalorian and Grogu's underwhelming box office run earlier in 2026.

Wayne explained that directors encouraged him to slow Din Djarin's movements, likening the approach to a samurai where "every movement matters." This echoed advice his grandfather had received early in his career: "talk low, talk slow, and don't say a lot." Wayne shares Mandalorian duties with fellow stunt performer Lateef Crowder, who handles the character's more demanding action sequences, while Pedro Pascal provides the voice. The Mandalorian and Grogu became the lowest-grossing Star Wars film to date, and no further instalments featuring the character have been officially confirmed.
