Bridie Lee, a 32-year-old triathlete, died after a car ploughed into a group of cyclists during an early morning ride in Canberra last Thursday. She and fellow members of the Canberra Bilbys Triathlon Club were riding on Gungahlin Drive at Palmerston when a blue Hyundai Accent struck the group; Ms Lee died at the scene despite efforts by passing motorists and emergency responders, while two other cyclists were injured, one of whom remains in a critical condition in hospital.

Originally from Perth, Ms Lee had moved to Canberra to work as a data specialist with the Australian Bureau of Statistics and was due to return home in December for family birthdays. An active club committee member and its social media manager, she had been named club person of the year in June, prompting an outpouring of tributes from friends, former classmates and the wider triathlon community. The 40-year-old female driver is assisting police with their inquiries, no charges have been laid, and the ACT's 2026 road toll now stands at 10.
