Two upcoming Buffy the Vampire Slayer comics from Dynamite Entertainment, a new Buffy series and a companion Angel series, have had their solicitations cancelled, though the publisher and writer insist the titles are delayed rather than truly scrapped. The news adds to a difficult run for the Buffy franchise, which has recently seen a planned TV revival cancelled and lost longtime supporter Dolly Parton, leaving fans anxious about the wider future of the property.

Both comics had already slipped from their original July and August release dates before Buffy #1 was rescheduled for August and then pulled entirely. Dynamite CEO Nick Barrucci said writer Kelly Thompson's story had grown more ambitious, prompting a decision to increase the page count for both first issues at no extra cost to readers or retailers, which required cancelling existing pre-orders so the titles can be re-solicited. Thompson confirmed on X that the books are "not cancelled — just delayed", explaining that comics industry practice requires cancelling a solicitation before it can be relisted, and said she hoped to share concrete news soon.
