An inquest has heard that Jason Gledhill, 55, died after being electrocuted while working alone in a maintenance room at the five-star Southampton Harbour Hotel on 13 August. The father-of-one, from Denton, Greater Manchester, had worked in installation and electrical roles, including previously as a network planner for British Telecom, and his death has prompted an outpouring of tributes from family and his local cricket club.

Senior coroner Christopher Wilkinson confirmed a post-mortem found electrocution as the cause of death, and has adjourned the full inquest to Winchester Coroners' Court on 30 June 2027. His wife Paula and daughter Georgina described their hearts as "completely broken", while Denton St Lawrence Cricket Club, where he served on the committee, held a minute's silence and remembered him as "a true gentleman". Emergency services, including three fire engines, two ambulances, an air ambulance and police, attended the scene, which was cordoned off; Hampshire Police said the death is not being treated as suspicious and are liaising with Environmental Health, while the Health and Safety Executive has been contacted for comment.
