Emily Blunt will receive the 19th annual Kirk Douglas Award for Excellence in Film from the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, with new details confirming Michael Douglas himself will present the tribute, praising her willingness to move between drama, comedy and blockbuster spectacle with equal precision. The honour caps a strong year for Blunt, who has drawn some of the best reviews of her career for Steven Spielberg's sci-fi epic "Disclosure Day", alongside her return as Emily Charlton in "The Devil Wears Prada 2" opposite Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway and Stanley Tucci.

The award will be presented at a black-tie dinner in Santa Barbara on Thursday 10 December 2026, benefiting the festival's year-round educational programmes. Blunt has previously won the Actor Award for "A Quiet Place", a Golden Globe for "Gideon's Daughter", and earned an Oscar nomination for "Oppenheimer" plus a Golden Globe nod for "The Smashing Machine". Past Kirk Douglas Award recipients include Cynthia Erivo, Michelle Yeoh, Martin Scorsese and Judi Dench, and last year's festival hosted over 200 films and more than 60 Oscar winners and nominees; the 42nd edition runs 3–13 February 2027.

The Santa Barbara International Film Festival is an annual event held in California each winter that showcases new films and hands out honours to notable figures in the industry. One of these is the Kirk Douglas Award for Excellence in Film, named after the late Hollywood actor, which the festival has given out for nearly two decades to performers recognised for the range and quality of their work; past winners include Judi Dench, Michelle Yeoh and Martin Scorsese.

The award is presented at a dedicated dinner event, with proceeds supporting the festival's educational work throughout the year, and it typically comes shortly before the festival's main programme of screenings the following February.
