The Tokyo Film Festival has revealed its opening and closing selections for 2026, with Zeze Takahisa's music drama "Sukiyaki" set to open the event and Yeon Sang-ho's zombie thriller "Colony" chosen to close it, while "Godzilla Minus Zero" has been named the Centerpiece film. The announcement marks the festival's first major programming reveal ahead of its late-October run, highlighting a mix of Japanese and international titles that reflect its ambitions to showcase both homegrown talent and acclaimed festival hits.

"Sukiyaki", starring Okada Junichi, Matsuzaka Tori and Nakano Taiga, tells the story behind the historic hit song and opens the festival on 26 October before its Japanese cinema release on 25 December. "Colony", which premiered at Cannes and has performed strongly across Asia, closes the festival, while "Godzilla Minus Zero" — directed by Yamazaki Takashi and the first Japanese production shot for Imax — screens as the Centerpiece before its 3 November release. The Tokyo Film Festival runs from 26 October to 4 November, alongside the TIFFCOM industry market held 28-30 October.
