Sunderland have signed Tottenham defender Kevin Danso on a season-long loan, with an option to make the move permanent next summer if the club remain in the Premier League. The Austria international, who won the Europa League with Spurs in 2025, is expected to strengthen Regis Le Bris's squad as they prepare for their first European campaign since 1973.

The loan will cost Sunderland £2.5m, rising to a permanent £22.5m fee next summer contingent on Premier League survival. Danso, 27, joined Tottenham from RC Lens in January 2025 and made 52 appearances for the club. His departure comes as Spurs close in on a deal for Chelsea defender Tosin Adarabioyo, with the north London club also nearing an agreement to sign Chelsea forward Mykhailo Mudryk before Tuesday's transfer deadline.
