He had shared six photos of himself with the Atlanta Falcons captioned "For the A", and a comment reading "We're so proud of you!! You got this," with a heart emoji, was quickly deleted. His wife, Annah, then posted an almost identical message on the same post, fuelling speculation that Tagovailoa had briefly forgotten which account he was using.

Social media users seized on the apparent slip, with comments on X calling it "comedy gold" and mocking the 28-year-old for "not even trying to hide the self-love". Tagovailoa's representatives did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The incident comes as he competes for the Falcons' starting quarterback role against Michael Penix Jr, having signed a one-year deal after being released by Miami; reports suggest he has struggled in training camp, and head coach Kevin Stefanski has yet to name a starter for the season opener against Pittsburgh.
