The Hunger Games franchise is returning to cinemas early, with an exclusive extended preview of Sunrise on the Reaping showing this week as part of a special re-release of the five previous films in the series. The move gives fans their first big-screen look at the next instalment, an adaptation of Suzanne Collins' 2025 novel, roughly two months ahead of its full theatrical release, building anticipation for the franchise's return to Panem.

The re-release brings back The Hunger Games, Catching Fire, Mockingjay – Part 1, Mockingjay – Part 2 and The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. Sunrise on the Reaping is set 24 years before the original trilogy and follows a 16-year-old Haymitch Abernathy through the 50th Hunger Games, a Second Quarter Quell featuring 48 tributes instead of the usual 24. Joseph Zada takes over the role of Haymitch from Woody Harrelson, with a cast including Whitney Peak, Mckenna Grace, Jesse Plemons, Ralph Fiennes, Elle Fanning, Kieran Culkin and Glenn Close; Francis Lawrence returns to direct. The film opens fully in theatres on 20 November 2026.
