Overwatch Is Getting the Critical Role Treatment With Upcoming TTRPG Adventure

Polygon · 5 hours ago

Blizzard is bringing a tabletop role-playing game to Overwatch for the first time, with a live event called Questwatch set to take place at BlizzCon on 13 September. The crossover marks a departure from the brand's usual skins and marketing tie-ins, instead blending its sci-fi hero-shooter setting with fantasy-style TTRPG storytelling, and reflects Blizzard's broader push to weave its Overwatch and World of Warcraft properties into the wider tabletop gaming space.

The session will be led by Matthew Mercer, the Critical Role Dungeon Master who also voices Overwatch's Cassidy, acting as game master for four heroes on an adventure through Overland. Neither the participating characters nor the game system have been confirmed, though promotional imagery showing Cassidy holding two d12 dice has fuelled speculation that Critical Role's own system, Daggerheart, will be used. Further details are expected at BlizzCon's opening ceremony on 12 September, and the event follows news that World of Warcraft is also getting an official Dungeons & Dragons sourcebook this November.
