Australian filmmaker Anupam Sharma has set the wrongful terrorism prosecution of Sri Lankan student Kamer Nizamdeen as the subject of a new feature documentary, "Framed," with its first-look poster unveiled ahead of the inaugural Toronto Film Festival market. The film revisits the case of Nizamdeen, who was arrested and held in solitary confinement for a month on terrorism charges in Sydney before all charges were dropped, and who has since campaigned to clear his name. The filmmakers say he was framed by a jealous colleague using a forged document, and frame the story as one touching on Islamophobia and the ease with which false information can spread unchallenged.

Produced by Sharma's company Temple, the documentary was filmed in Sydney, Melbourne, Colombo and New York, and includes interviews with Kamer and Najwa Nizamdeen and lawyer Moustafa Kheir. It is co-written and edited by Karin Steininger ("Anne Frank Remembered"), with executive producers Janine Barnes and Cathy Rodda. The project received development and post-production funding from Screen Australia, Screen NSW and SBS, was selected for the FACTory documentary pitching forum, and is being sold internationally by Forum Films, arriving almost eight years after Nizamdeen's arrest and following Australia's first national report on Islamophobia.
