A 21-foot steel beam recovered from the World Trade Center's South Tower is travelling up the US East Coast this week as part of the Tunnel to Towers Foundation's "Steel Across America" tour, launched to mark the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. The tour honours American service members and first responders, and the beam's journey has included stops such as the US Military Academy at West Point, where cadets and officials paid tribute to those who died and those who continued to serve afterwards.

The 16,900lb beam is scheduled to appear at Fenway Park in Boston, the Massachusetts Fallen Heroes Memorial, a private event in Washington, D.C., a Brooklyn event on 11 September, and finally at MetLife Stadium for a New York Giants match on 13 September. At West Point, superintendent Lt Gen James B. Bartholomees III linked the steel to the legacy of first responders such as Stephen Siller, while Siller's brother, Tunnel to Towers chairman Frank Siller, recalled Stephen's final act of running into the towers on the day of the attacks.
