Nathan Fillion has taken on the role of Captain Kirk in a special script reading of "Mudd's Passion", an episode of Star Trek: The Animated Series, adding another beloved sci-fi franchise to his growing resume. The reading served as a warm-up act at a WGF event, ahead of a performance by cast members of The Pitt, who read out the very first Star Trek episode ever broadcast. The casting highlights Fillion's expanding profile across major franchises, coming as he continues to juggle roles in the DC Universe and ABC's The Rookie.

The reading also featured D'Arcy Carden as Mr Spock, Paul Scheer as Montgomery Scott, Adam Arkin as Harry Mudd and Aimee Garcia as Nurse Chapel, with Fillion reportedly excelling in the part. Fillion remains busy elsewhere, having already filmed scenes as Guy Gardner's Green Lantern for Man of Tomorrow, the Superman sequel due for release on 9 July 2027 alongside David Corenswet, Nicholas Hoult and Aaron Pierre, while also continuing work on an animated Firefly reboot with Alan Tudyk and starring in The Rookie, which has been renewed for a ninth season.
