Fathom Entertainment and Hasbro are bringing "The Transformers: The Movie" back to international cinemas from 17 to 22 September to mark the 1986 animated film's 40th anniversary, paired with a new short titled "Optimus Prime: Awakening." The 12-minute short continues the original storyline and serves as a tribute to voice actor Peter Cullen, who died on 26 August, delivering his final original performance as Optimus Prime.

Frank Welker also returns to voice Megatron and Soundwave alongside Cullen's swansong turn, calling the pairing "made for each other" and praising Cullen's portrayal as rooted in honesty and loyalty. The item appeared in a wider Variety film news round-up that also covered a trailer for WWII deception drama "Fortitude" starring Ed Skrein and Matthew Goode, a trailer for the "George Michael: The Faith Tour" concert film due in cinemas on 11 December, and honours for cinematographers Darran Tiernan and Steven Poster at October's Emerging Cinematographer Awards.
