Beverly Vance Aikins, the mother of Vice President JD Vance, said in a television interview that she would like to punch Michigan Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed over his repeated attacks on her son's family. She made the remark, in jest, during an interview with Fox News host Tomi Lahren, saying El-Sayed did not know her son's true character and putting his comments down to jealousy of Vance's success and family life.

The exchange follows months of pointed remarks from El-Sayed about Vance, second lady Usha Vance and their children, including an April interview in which he questioned Vance's political views in relation to his biracial children and suggested Usha should leave her husband. More recently, El-Sayed made a comment referencing Usha Vance's Indian heritage after JD Vance criticised him over his adherence to Sharia law during a rally in Ohio. Vance publicly hit back at El-Sayed while campaigning for Senate nominee Mike Rogers, telling him to "keep my wife's name" out of his mouth. Fox News Digital said it had contacted the Vice President's office and El-Sayed's campaign for comment.
