Ena Sendijarevic’s Witch Hunt Drama’ ‘The Possessed’ Rounds Out Cast as Trio of Rising Stars Join Ariane Labed (EXCLUSIVE)

Variety · 4 hours ago

Dutch-Bosnian director Ena Sendijarević has completed casting for her third feature, "The Possessed," a 17th-century witch-hunt drama, adding rising stars Suzy Bemba, Khalil Gharbia and Ji-Min Park to join previously announced lead Ariane Labed. The film follows two women fleeing witch hunts who build a refuge that is disrupted when a man becomes their captive, sparking a love triangle, and is being pitched as a sensual, feminist drama with contemporary political resonance despite its period setting.

Labed will play "The Midwife," Bemba "The Baroness," Gharbia "The Shepherd" and Park "The Director," with filming set to take place in Spain across the Barcelona area and the Teruel region. Following casting and early rehearsals, Sendijarević has reworked the script so the film will now be shot in French, marking her first feature in that language. All three new cast members have strong festival and awards pedigrees, including Cannes selections and César "Revelations" recognition, alongside credits in prestige television and major international productions.
