Two more people have been charged in connection with the death of 12-year-old Bobby Bloomfield, who died after being struck by a car in Pilgrims Hatch, near Brentwood, Essex, on 7 June. Essex Police said William Lunnon, 65, has been charged with perverting the course of justice, while Ruth Lunnon, 65, both of Ashwells Road, has been charged with assisting an offender in relation to the murder. This follows earlier charges against a 15-year-old boy, who allegedly drove the car and cannot be named for legal reasons, and William Lunnon, 43, who was allegedly a passenger; both have been charged with murder.

The two new defendants appeared at Basildon Magistrates' Court and were bailed to attend Basildon Crown Court on 1 October, while the boy and the 43-year-old are due back at Basildon Crown Court on 6 October, having pleaded not guilty and entered no plea respectively. Prosecutors previously told a hearing that Bobby was with three friends on Lunnon's land when he was asked to leave, and the boys were chased by a vehicle before Bobby was struck; the driver allegedly then got out and punched and kicked him. Both defendants are said to have left Bobby injured at the roadside and destroyed potential evidence. Bobby, a Year 8 pupil at Shenfield High School, was described by his family as having "brought light and life" into their lives.
